New puppy checklist: building the biological foundation
Bringing a new puppy home is a logistical challenge, but the biological preparation is what sets them up for longevity. Beyond the bed, collar, and bowls, your checklist needs to cover their health infrastructure.
The first 16 weeks are a critical window for immunity, brain development, and socialisation. Missing a step here can have long-term compounding effects. A longevity-focused checklist prioritises the systems that support their growth, not just the accessories.

The health infrastructure
Your immediate priorities are medical and safety-based.
• Vaccination Schedule: Know exactly when their next booster is due to close their immunity gap.
• Parasite Prevention: Puppies are almost always born with worms; have a worming schedule ready that aligns with their weight.
• Insurance: Get cover immediately before "pre-existing conditions" are noted in their first vet consult.
• Microchip Update: Ensure their registration is transferred to your name.
• Safe Zone: Set up a pen or crate for enforced naps, which are critical for their neurological development.
• Desexing & stem cell banking: what is the right age? could cell banking be right for your dog? read more here
Socialisation vs protection
The biggest trade-off you will manage is socialisation versus disease risk. You need to expose them to new surfaces, sounds, and people before their "fear period" closes at 14 weeks, but you must do it without exposing them to Parvovirus.
Carry them in public, use "safe" backyards of vaccinated dogs, and focus on positive experiences. This is also the time to start handling their paws and ears daily to desensitise them for future vet visits.
The digital twin
As you gather paperwork, certificates, and schedules, things get messy fast. Elita Blueprint allows you to build a "digital twin" of your puppy from day one. Upload their vaccination records, microchip number, and insurance policy into the Data Vault. Set reminders for worming based on their rapidly changing weight. By centralising their data now, you are building a complete health history that will become their most valuable asset as they age.
